Nyaung U

Even though it is far from the main temples, you can still call this the most happening town since it is an arrival point to Bagan. You can easily find mid range and budget accommodation here. Remember to check out the market center called ‘the restaurant raw’ near Yarkinnthar Hotel Road. This road offers a range of restaurants and open seating areas to sit and chat over a beer.

Old Bagan

The ancient city inside the walls of the historical capital is the place to be if you want to be close to the popular temples and if you want a bit of luxury at some of the most exquisite yet expensive hotels. The area between Ananda Pagoda and the Tharbar Gate is scattered with restaurants serving western and Asian dishes. If you are lucky you could even see a traditional puppet show in one of these restaurants.

This village is famous for bamboo weaving and Mon style lacquer ware. It is filled with souvenir shops and workshops of weaving and lacquer-ware.

New Bagan

Visitors can find a wide range of budget and mid-range accommodation in this town situated south of the Bagan's temples. Local handicraft shops and riverside restaurants will keep you occupied during your stay there. However 'New Bagan' lacks the ancient charm of the nearby towns.
